However, as AI becomes more advanced, it’s important that we consider how human values can be incorporated into its development.
At DeepMind, our mission is to solve intelligence and use it to make the world a better place. We believe that this should include building ethical principles into AI systems so they are designed with fairness and safety in mind. This means ensuring that any decisions made by an AI system are based on valid data sets which accurately reflect real-world conditions; avoiding bias or discrimination; protecting user privacy; being transparent about how decisions were made; and having safeguards against misuse or abuse of power.
We also need to ensure that these principles are applied across all aspects of society – not just those related directly to technology – such as healthcare, education, housing and employment opportunities. To do this effectively requires collaboration between experts from different disciplines including computer science, law, ethics and policy making.
In addition to incorporating ethical principles into the design of AI systems themselves there needs to be oversight over their implementation too – both at the individual level (e.g., through regulation) but also at the societal level (e.g., through public debate). This will help us ensure that any new technologies developed using AI don’t lead us down a path where people’s rights or freedoms are compromised in some way due to algorithmic decision-making processes which lack transparency or accountability mechanisms built into them .
Ultimately if we want our societies to benefit from advances in artificial intelligence then we must take steps now towards building human values into its development process so it works for everyone – not just those who have access or control over it .
