Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple and a self-proclaimed “Godfather of AI”, recently made headlines when he announced his departure from Google. In an interview with CNN Business, Wozniak shared his concerns about artificial intelligence (AI) and why he isn’t worried about it like many other tech leaders are.
Wozniak believes that AI has the potential to be incredibly powerful but also very dangerous if not used responsibly. He is particularly concerned about how companies use data collected from users without their knowledge or consent. He worries that this could lead to people being manipulated by algorithms designed to influence them in certain ways for profit or political gain.
However, despite these fears, Wozniak does not believe that AI will ever become sentient and take over humanity as some have predicted. Instead, he believes that humans will always remain in control of technology because we can think more creatively than machines can. He also points out that while there may be risks associated with using AI, there are also great benefits such as improved healthcare and better transportation systems which should not be overlooked either.
In addition to expressing his views on AI’s potential dangers and benefits, Wozniak discussed why he decided to leave Google after working there for several years: “I felt I was no longer contributing enough…I wanted something new.” Despite leaving the company though, Wozniak still holds Google in high regard saying “Google is one of my favorite companies”.
Overall Steve Wozniak’s departure from Google serves as a reminder of both the potential dangers posed by artificial intelligence as well as its incredible power for good if used responsibly. As one of Silicon Valley’s most influential figures it will certainly be interesting to see what projects he takes on next now that he has left Google behind him!
