No Plans To Let Hong Kong Officials Use ChatGPT Minister Says

The Hong Kong government has no plans to allow officials to use ChatGPT, a natural language processing technology, according to the Secretary for Innovation and Technology. The minister pointed out that access is limited due to potential risks associated with its usage.
ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence (AI) system developed by Microsoft which can generate human-like conversations in response to questions posed by users. It was first released in 2019 and has since been used by various organisations around the world for customer service purposes.
However, Secretary Alfred Sit Wing-hang said that while he was aware of the technology’s capabilities, there were currently no plans for it to be adopted by the Hong Kong government as it could pose certain risks if not properly managed or monitored. He added that any decision on whether or not such technologies should be used would depend on how they are regulated and supervised in order to ensure public safety and security.
Sit also noted that AI systems like ChatGPT require large amounts of data in order for them to learn from user interactions and become more accurate over time – something which may present privacy concerns if not handled correctly. As such, he said it was important for governments around the world – including Hong Kong –to consider these issues before introducing new technologies into their operations or services.
He concluded his remarks by saying that while AI had great potential when applied responsibly, caution must always be taken when using such powerful tools as they could have unintended consequences if misused or abused.
