Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly prevalent in the workplace, and it’s estimated that up to 25% of all jobs could be automated by AI over the next decade. This means that many people will have to adjust their career paths or risk being left behind as automation takes over more and more tasks. But which jobs are most at risk?
A recent report from McKinsey Global Institute looked into this question and found that certain types of roles are much more likely to be automated than others. The study examined 800 occupations across 46 countries, finding that those involving physical labor such as construction workers were least likely to be replaced by machines, while those requiring cognitive skills such as data analysis were most vulnerable.
The report also highlighted some specific job categories where automation was particularly likely: customer service representatives, accountants, auditors, loan officers and tax preparers were among those identified as having a high potential for automation. On the other hand, healthcare practitioners like doctors and nurses had very low levels of automatability due to their need for human interaction with patients.
In addition to these findings about individual job categories, the report also noted some broader trends in terms of how different countries may fare when it comes to automation-related job losses. For example, developed economies like Japan and Germany are expected to experience higher levels of disruption due to their reliance on manufacturing industries which tend to require manual labor rather than cognitive skillsets – meaning they’re less able adapt quickly enough if robots start taking over these roles en masse. Meanwhile developing nations like India may actually benefit from increased use of AI technology since they already have large numbers of people employed in lower-skilled positions which can easily be taken over by machines without too much disruption or cost involved for employers.
