As the world continues to move forward with artificial intelligence (AI) technology, countries are beginning to take steps towards regulating its use. China is no exception and has recently released a draft of their AI laws for public opinion. This follows in the footsteps of the United States who also sought out public opinion on similar regulations last year.
The Chinese government has been actively researching and developing AI technologies since 2017 when they announced their “New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Plan” which aimed to make China a leader in this field by 2030. The plan included investing heavily into research and development as well as creating an environment that would be conducive for innovation within the industry.
In order to ensure that these plans are carried out effectively, it is important for there to be some form of regulation in place so that all parties involved can operate safely and ethically. To this end, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released a draft version of their proposed AI laws which will regulate how companies develop, deploy, use, store data related to AI applications as well as how they should handle any potential risks associated with them such as privacy issues or security concerns.
The MIIT has stated that they want feedback from both domestic and international stakeholders before finalizing these regulations so that everyone can have input into what kind of rules should be put in place when it comes to using AI technology responsibly. They have opened up a period where people can submit comments on the draft until April 30th 2021 after which time they will review all submissions before making any changes or adjustments if necessary.
This move by China shows just how seriously governments around the world are taking this issue now more than ever before due to increasing concerns about privacy violations or misuse of data collected through various forms of technology including those powered by artificial intelligence algorithms .
